Romanticism and the Legend of the Sleepy Hollow.

Romanticism was a fascinating time for literature wasn't it? For Monday, April 25, we're going to read Washington Irving's The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow and find the characteristics of Romanticism in it. We are also going to watch a movie called Wuthering Heights (based on a novel by Emily Bronte) and do the same things, then we will compare both of them.  The story is 40 pages long, so start reading early so you won't be stuck doing it last minute! I will post a link to the movie as well.

1. Read the story and underline the elements of Romanticism that you find in it.
2.  Watch the movie and take notes of the elements of Romanticism you find in it.
3. Write an essay stating the elements of Romanticism in both the film and story, and then discuss whether they use those elements in a similar of different way.  For example: is one more centered in nature than the other? is one leaning more torwards the Gothic? Is one hero/protagonist more clearly Romantic than the other?
4. This essay should be minimum 1 1/2 pages long.
5. This essay is worth 15 points instead of 10 like the previous ones.
6. Remember to use the correct format (font, size, etc).
7. When you comment on the story, give me examples that show that you actually read it!
8. You are intelligent, use your own brain. Don't copy!!!
9. You have three days before the weekend to ask ANY questions. Please feel free to come and clear up and doubts
